King John's Revenge

By: Mr. Curmudgeon

In March of 1941, things were not going well for Great Britain. In a single week, German U-boats sank 59,000-tons of British shipping, and England seemed certain to loose its desperate struggle with Adolph Hitler. Britain’s Permanent Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Sir Alexander Cadogan, wrote a memo to England’s Prime Minister Winston Churchill. In the note, Sir Alexander suggested words to accompany a gift from a fading Britain to the United States:

“I should like to say to the Americans “may we give you, at least as a token of our feeling, something of no intrinsic value whatsoever: a bit of parchment, more than 700 years old, rather the worse for wear? You know what it means to us. We believe it means as much to you. Will you accept it as a symbol and a seal of our compact to fight to the last against the forces of evil?”

The gift was a copy of an ancient parchment held at Lincoln Cathedral since 1216 – the Maga Carta Libertatum (the Great Charter of Freedoms).

America’s entry into the Second World War made the grand gesture unnecessary. Together, the two allies defended the principles in that charter until the defeat and unconditional surrender of its German foe.

Today the Magna Carta is under assault once again; this time from Britain’s Islamic extremists and the spineless multiculturalists who refuse to defend it. It was announced that British courts will recognize and enforce decisions handed down by Sharia or Islamic courts in matters pertaining to divorce, financial disputes and domestic violence.

Britain’s Lord Chief Justice Nicolas Phillips, in a speech at a mosque in East London said, “There is no reason why principles of Sharia law or any other religious code should not be the basis for mediation or other forms of dispute resolution.”

Conservative Party leader David Cameron said, “This would be dangerous and illiberal. It would be dangerous because in Britain, all citizens are equal before the law. That concept is absolutely fundamental to our democracy – itself developed and nurtured over centuries.” He added that Britain’s recognition of Sharia law was the “logical endpoint of the now discredited doctrine of state multiculturalism, seeing people merely as followers of certain religions, rather than individuals in their own right within a common community.”

A poll taken in 2006 found that only half of British Muslims thought of Britain as their country. Of Muslims between the ages of 18 and 24, one in three said they would rather live under Sharia than under British law.

Multiculturalism is the nilhist’s foolish attempt to create a level playing field in a moral universe. Once the moral center of our brain is thoroughly lobotomized and judgments of good and evil, wise and foolish, safe and dangerous are no more, the business of converting humanity into defenseless ingredients for the soup of tyrants can proceed unabated.

Today, the world is at war. Not with terrorism but the ideas that inspire it. Islamic radicalism is unbending in its desire to compel the world’s submission to its dark vision of god; and that dark vision comes with its own peculiar set of laws

  • Sharia allows husbands to beat their wives.
  • It sanctions legal revenge (a literal eye-for-an-eye).
  • Mandates the amputation of hands for theft, and mutilation or crucifixion for highway robbery
  • The execution of homosexuals.
  • The stoning to death of adulterers.
  • Death for all critics of Islam, Muhammad, the Koran and Sharia itself.
  • Death for any Muslim who converts to another faith. It also compels its followers to struggle (jihad) in its defense, even at the cost of their own lives.

The consistent theme to all the above is death.

If any of the afore mentioned abominations offend the reader, it results from the residual echo of a 4,000 year-old Judeo-Christian ethic which still stirs in the collective subconscious of a befuddled Western World.

Now the island that, for a time, stood alone against the fascist enemies of justice will allow Islamic injustice to slowly erode the fundamental principle behind England’s ancient parchment -- that her leaders and her people are subject to and defenders of her just laws.

After the Second World War, Churchill spoke of the debt America owed Great Britain’s ancient parchment, and the open defiance due those who would destroy it:

“…We must never cease to proclaim in fearless tones the great principles of freedom and the rights of man which are the joint inheritance of the English-speaking world and which through Magna Carta, the Bill of rights, the Habeas Corpus, trial by jury, and the English common law find their most famous expression in the American Declaration of Independence.”
